BayVAN’s curated solo show of photographs by Berkeley artist, John Vias currently on view at DOMAIN By Alta’s Inspiration Gallery is part of their “Nomadic Curatorial” program, which produces full scale solo or group exhibitions, and site-specific installations at venues and galleries throughout the Bay Area in painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, printmaking, video and mixed media. Artists for these exhibitions, like Vias, are drawn from their extensive registry of Bay Area-based visual artists.
John Vias’ night photography skillfully balances the dark skies with the city lights and natural moonlight. The luminosity created aggrandizes shapes of objects and exacerbates colors, creating stages of anxious energies. In this stilled anticipation of movement from past and future activity, time in his various landscapes are compressed and the residual quiet is almost palpable.
Exhibtions and arts events such as these at Inspiration Gallery in DOMAIN By Alta apartments connect organizations and businesses to the artists in their communities and provide increased exposure for Bay Area based visual artists. The gallery will feature a new artist each quarter, and is centered in the hub of the living facilities. Its placement adjacent to the mail room and the common room, and directly off the main lobby ensures all residents of the apartments will at one time or another see the artwork and peruse the gallery, while also inviting passers-by and the public an opportunity to view the works on display as well.
