Femme Cartel’s art exhibition and community party on January 13th spread out through 5 venues along San Pablo Avenue: Actual Café, James & the Giant Cupcake, A Verb for Keeping Warm, Essence of Beauty, and Kinks Beauty Supply. The show’s celebration that night included over 40 female artists: painters, crafstswomen, and singers, musicians and DJs that included 3D collage, oil paintings, fashion, sculpture, poetry, street art, writing, crafts, spoken word, portraits, drawings, comedy, mixed media, graffiti art, video art, and textile arts.

The show was coordinated by Femme Cartel, an all-women’s collective of artists, musicians, craft vendors, and performers. They produced their first show in Uptown this past summer, and it was a massive success. In their own words they describe themselves: “Hot, local, boundary-pushing, emotionally-on fire, talented contemporary urban artists of all stripes…who happen to be females/femmes/girls/ladies.”
