On May 11, the public was invited to a unique opportunity to view the diverse and interdisciplinary works of the 24 2013 and 2014 MFA Studio Arts candidates of Mills College. With only 12 new students accepted each year, the Mills College MFA in Studio Art is not only a distinguished program but also an intensive one, working directly with a faculty of accomplished artists in their choice of painting, ceramics, sculpture, installation, photography, intermedia, video, and electronic arts. The MFA program culiminates in a thesis exhibition of student work in the historic Mills College Art Museum, this year’s being Compound Vision.
This year’s MFA Open Studios included artists Claire Colette, Gwynessa Balvanz, Evan Barbour, Sarah Beckstrom, Lauren Dougals, Claire Droney, Veva Edelson, Dave Kim, William Koone, Margaret Lawless, Keegan Luttrell, Nadja Miller, David Mohr, Barbara Obata, Meri Page, Simon Pyle, Heather Reidel, Kate Rhoades, Lucienne Silva, Jenny Sharaf, Kate Short, Susan Sternberg, Kelsey Thorne, and Katy Warner.
