The 19th Annual Community Celebration for the Days of the Dead at Oakland Museum of California on Sunday, October 27 included a vast array of crafts made by local artisans for sale and activities to the family to take part, delicious bites from food trucks and traditional Mesoamerican fare, diverse performances and dance from Mariachi to ballet, and colorful ofrendas placed all around the Museum to bring community together. The year’s coinciding exhibition, “The Tree of Life and Death: Días de los Muertos 2013,” guest curated by muralist Eduardo Pineda on view in the Gallery of California Natural Sciences displayed an assortment of installations by guest artists that explored the intersection of nature and cycles of life.
“The Tree of Life and Death: Días de los Muertos 2013,” will be on view at Oakland Museum of California 1000 Oak Street through December 8.
